District readies Read Across America week; signed books from local author to be distributed

Gloucester County Public Schools announced plans for Read Across America week and invited board members and community volunteers to sign up to read at schools, Dr. Amy Stamm told the board.
Stamm said the district will email board members and community partners about sign-up opportunities; community engagement staffer Deborah Falkenberg will send registration details. The district has assembled a set of gift books for volunteers to take when they visit classrooms, and two books in the packet are specifically targeted to kindergarten and first grade. One of the books included is The Daffodils Ran Free, by Gloucester author and former teacher Roberta Wyatt, and Stamm said copies the district distributed include the author’s signature.
Stamm said Read Across America has been in planning for roughly 16 months and will lean on community volunteers, retired teachers and other partners. Board members and school staff present praised the initiative and encouraged broad volunteer participation across multiple schools and grade levels.
