Local nonprofit BC United outlines scholarships, attendance incentives and summer events

BC United, a local nonprofit that uses the name “Blessed Couples,” told the Gloucester County School Board it awarded scholarships to local high-school seniors, ran a free “I Am Enough” girls’ empowerment seminar and plans a boys’ seminar and a back-to-school community block party this summer.
Vanessa Keller, presenting for BC United, said the group serves Gloucester, Matthews and Middlesex counties. The organization reported three Gloucester High School scholarship recipients currently attending Virginia Tech and East Carolina University and said it gave one Memorial Scholarship to a Matthews High School student. Keller listed recent community work including food and supply donations to local shelters, a Back-to-School Block Party that served about 200 families, and quarterly wellness support for residents at Walter Reed Rehabilitation Center.
BC United told the board it aims to support attendance by donating scooters to each elementary school and highlighted a free two‑day “I Am Enough” conference for girls (grades 6–12) planned for April 18–20 and a one-day “Boys to Men” event for grades 6–12 on May 31. The group thanked partners that supported last year’s programs, including Sentara, Bayport, Gloucester Community Foundation and Gloucester Toyota; BC United said Gloucester Toyota donated a car for a raffle fundraiser.
Board members praised the group’s volunteer work and outreach. BC United encouraged school staff and board members to sign up as volunteers for Read Across America and other school events and requested continued collaboration on outreach and donation opportunities.
BC United listed contact and sponsorship information and asked the board to publicize volunteer and registration information when dates are finalized.
