Board approves $1.44 million DRF grant to expand CTE equipment and courses

The Danville School Board voted Jan. 9 to accept a $1,439,438.10 Career and Technical Education (CTE) grant from DRF to fund equipment and materials at the district’s Innovation Academy, Innovate Academy at Langston and Motivate Academy at STEM.
Dr. Babalola, a district CTE official, told the board the three-year award will purchase instructional equipment including aviation-science tools, engineering and robotics labs, automation and mechatronics equipment, cybersecurity and coding workstations and desktop computers for programming. The district will receive the majority of the funds in the first year so it can begin purchasing major equipment immediately.
Motion and vote: The motion to accept the grant was made by Mister Payne and seconded by Miss Averyt. The motion passed with recorded “yes” votes from the board members who cast votes during the roll call.
Board members had no substantive reservations during the meeting. Dr. Babalola said the grant package was prepared by the district’s CTE leadership team and named several contributing staff members involved in writing the proposal. The board approved accepting the funds so the division can proceed with purchasing and installing equipment for the new CTE pathways.
