Denison staff reworks fence bid for Fairview and Magnolia cemeteries; bid opening set for Jan. 28

Chip Egger said the base bid was changed from a 6-foot fence to a 4-foot fence and that several components — columns, sodding and other items — were removed from the base and listed as bid options so the city can add them later as funds allow. "We removed this as a 6 foot fence and turned the base bid into a 4 foot fence," Egger said.
The change also requires unit pricing for lineal footage so the city can scale the project if needed. Egger pointed to the bid package’s lineal-footage entry of 3,479 feet and said the unit prices will let the city reduce scope (for example, by removing stretches along Highway 84) if the total cost exceeds available funds.
Egger reported that 18 bid packets had been picked up as of the morning of the meeting and that the city scheduled the bid opening for Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. He said the city has continued to receive donations for the project and that the architectural services already paid for came from those donations. "The architectural services were paid for out of the donations that we have received for this project," Egger said.
Board members asked about how the project was publicized and Egger said it was advertised in the Herald Democrat and posted on the City of Denison website; national bidding services also circulated the package.
Egger said the bid options were retained because the board and staff still favor a taller fence and additional features but want the bids to fit the available budget. He said the board will be involved in final decisions after the bids are opened and that staff expects to report back at the February meeting.
