Recreation staff presented an outlook for THF Park activities and special events in 2025, including leagues, tournaments and community events.
Staff said they expect 35 total tournaments this year (16 softball, 18 baseball, 1 soccer), up from 33 last year, and that spring leagues and programs will proceed on schedules similar to 2024. Upcoming events staff highlighted include a collegiate winter blast tournament (Feb. 14–15), TSA league play in March, recreation programs run by the Boys and Girls Club and DYS in late March, the Easter egg hunt at THF Park on April 17 (staff said 25,000 eggs will be used across the soccer fields), Pilates in the Park resuming April 19, sand volleyball leagues and a Summer Sizzler tournament, a THF Park Birthday Bash on Aug. 8 in collaboration with Grayson County and other departments, and kickoff dates for fall seasons in September.
Special events from the recreation team include a daddy-daughter dance on March 8 at the Denison Senior Center with two sessions (5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.), tickets priced at $10 per person; a Heavy Hitters softball camp on March 15 featuring Jada Coleman and Kenzie Hansen (noted as former University of Oklahoma national champions) for ages 6–18; a mother-and-son event March 29 at the Backyard at Waterloo with laser tag and other activities; Paddle Palooza on May 3 at Waterloo Lake offering free kayaking and water-safety instruction (staff said last year’s attendance was 75 and they want to increase capacity); and an Ice Cream Social on May 22 at THF Park.
Staff also described recurring programs such as monthly Walk with the Doc events in collaboration with TMC and Dr. Angela Latham, and community fitness offerings coordinated with local instructors. Staff said they will continue coordination with volunteers and partner organizations for event operations.
