Denison High students to rebuild vandalized StoryWalk kiosks at THF Park

Parks staff reported that vandals damaged 13 of 16 StoryWalk kiosks at THF Park last September. After a social media notice, staff said they were contacted by Aaron Pridemore from Denison High School, who manages the school’s Ag Mechanics, Engineering and Robotics Electronics program, offering student help to reconstruct the kiosks.
Staff said Denison High School helped with materials funding and that the school’s students built heavy-duty kiosk bases intended to be more resistant to vandalism. Staff said they visited the school’s shop to review student work and described the replacements as sturdy.
The department said the rebuild work should be completed in February with installation planned for March. Programs that use the kiosks are scheduled to resume in April; staff said they have coordinated with the Denison Public Library to start the program April 25.
Staff said the vandalism appeared to have occurred over a weekend and that the department used social media to notify the public while arranging reconstruction.
