Old Town Park sign updated; Jones Park pickleball design moves toward RFP

Staff told the Parks and Recreation Commission that the Old Town Park name change approved by City Council on Jan. 6 has been completed: signage and website references have been updated and staff said they are waiting for sunnier weather to photograph park amenities.
The commission also received an update on Jones Park pickleball courts. Staff described work with a landscape engineer and presented a preliminary design and an engineering drawing. Staff said the engineering drawing is not yet final but should be completed later in the week, at which point the department will prepare a request for proposals (RFP) for construction bidding.
During the discussion a commissioner asked whether the proposed placement would affect the existing basketball court; staff said the design does not affect current amenities and was sited to preserve open space and improve access to an existing pavilion. Staff pointed to the layout’s proximity to the playground and pavilion as an accessibility improvement.
Staff invited questions and said they will proceed to finalize engineering documents and the RFP schedule.
