City staff provided the Denison City Council an overview of the fiscal year 2026 budget and tax-rate adoption schedule Monday, detailing key dates as the city begins budget work.
Staff said the budget kickoff runs from early March through early September. Key milestones are a June workshop between council and staff to review council goals, a July period focused on budget detail, an August filing and posting of the proposed budget with the city clerk (with changes still possible), and a Sept. 2 council meeting to adopt the 2025 tax rate that will fund the FY26 budget.
Staff emphasized that posting the proposed budget in August does not lock it in and that council can make changes up to adoption. No motion was required or taken on the informational item.
