The Dalhart City Council voted April 15 to provide $6,000 in community development funds to the All About Kids backpack and school-supply program.
City staff described the program to the council, saying the organizer typically distributes backpacks and full grade-specific supply kits each August to students in need. Staff reported that the organizer distributed about 730 backpacks last year and estimated the program’s total annual cost at roughly $15,000; the presenter said the program was seeking $6,000 from city community development funds to cover part of that cost.
A councilmember moved to approve the $6,000 request and the motion carried on a voice vote; the transcript records an affirmative vote with no oppositions noted. Council did not elaborate further on procurement or distribution logistics at the meeting.
The presenter said the program places orders in advance to have supplies ready before the school year and that distribution typically occurs the Sunday after the annual XIT event.
