Dalhart council approves $6,000 for Keep Dalhart Beautiful planting and maintenance

The Dalhart City Council voted April 15 to approve $6,000 from community development funds for Keep Dalhart Beautiful to purchase plants and supplies for downtown flower beds and planters.
Keep Dalhart Beautiful representatives told the council the organization coordinates downtown pots and flower beds with volunteers and partner groups including the Rotary Club and Grace Methodist Church, and that the funding would maintain seasonal plantings and recently installed artificial topiaries.
Council members moved and approved the payment during the consent item that followed public comment. The presenter said the group had previously received funding to support downtown planters and asked the city to consider additional upgrades: a separate request outlined 10 new benches and five matching trash cans for downtown and for the gazebo on Main Street. The presenter asked whether the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) or a future budget allocation would be the appropriate funding source.
Council did not take separate action on the benches and trash cans at the April 15 meeting; the presenter provided a handout requesting the upgrades and asked staff to explore options through the EDC or the city budget process.
The approved $6,000 is intended to cover plants and supplies for spring and summer maintenance of downtown beds and planters.
