Council adopts ordinance vacating portions of streets adjacent to Beecher property

The Dalhart City Council adopted a final-reading ordinance on May 12 to close, abandon and vacate several undeveloped streets and alleyways bordering land owned by a single property owner identified as the Beecher property.

The ordinance, listed as Ordinance 2025-01, covers portions of Austin Street between Dodson and Kammock, portions of Kammock between Austin and Beaumont, and portions of Beaumont between Kammock and Dotson. City staff told the council these street and alley segments are not currently developed.

The item was presented as a final reading and a public hearing was opened and closed during the meeting. No public commenters opposed the closure during the hearing. A motion to adopt the final reading of Ordinance 2025-01 carried on a voice vote.

The ordinance includes a severability clause and an effective date; city staff indicated the action formalizes street status where land on both sides is under common ownership.
