Crowley council adopts two ordinances updating fines, penalties

Ordinance 15-47, described as "an ordinance to amend and reenact provisions of chapter 1, section 1 through 8, general penalty of the code of ordinance of the city of Crowley to update applicable fines and penalties for violations and to make other amendments in keeping with current state law," was offered by Alderman Brad Coore and seconded by Alderwoman Sandy Marks. A public hearing was opened and recessed earlier in the meeting with no proponents or opponents recorded. The council adopted the ordinance by roll call vote with all members voting yes.
The council then moved and adopted Ordinance 15-48, described as "an ordinance to amend and reenact provisions of chapter 7, criminal code of the code of ordinance of the city of Crowley to update applicable fines and penalties for violations and to make other amendments in keeping with current state law," on a unanimous roll call following a recessed public hearing that drew no public comment.
Both measures were presented as housekeeping updates to align local fines and penalties with current state law; no substantive debate or amendments were recorded during the council session. The mayor opened the public hearings for each ordinance, called for proponents and opponents, and recessed the hearings when none spoke.
