Covington council appoints Amanda Plessia as assistant city attorney for labor and employment matters

The Covington City Council on a unanimous roll‑call vote approved Resolution 2025‑01 to appoint Amanda Plessia as the city’s assistant city attorney for labor and employment matters.

Amanda Plessia, who introduced herself to the council as a partner at Blue Williams law firm with offices in Metairie, Mandeville and Houston, told council members she handles employment law and civil service matters for several public entities, including advising civil service boards, representing municipalities in EEOC claims and litigating state and federal cases.

City staff and the police chief had met with Plessia before the meeting, the administration said, and recommended her based on experience handling civil service and employment matters for local governments. The council called for a motion, the vote was taken by roll call and all voting members recorded “yes.”

The council noted that Michael Weiner, the previous attorney who handled employment work, retired in December. The city attorney said the city charter gives the city attorney authority to appoint assistant city attorneys and announced the appointment from the dais.

Plessia told the council she advises on civil service appeals, employee investigations and other day‑to‑day employment issues; she offered to answer questions from council members during the meeting. No amendment or further conditions were attached to the appointment at the time it was approved.
