Broussard introduces annexation for South Girard Road property and previews June budget schedule

The City of Broussard council on May 13 introduced an ordinance to annex property on the south side of U.S. Highway 90 and the east side of South Girard Road so the owner can connect to city utilities, and council members also introduced amendments and the operating budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
City staff said the annexation request—identified as the Cottages of Acadiana LLC and Magnolia Water Utility Operating Company LLC—has been in discussion for several years and that coordination with Lafayette Parish is underway to arrange wholesale water service.
The mayor said the property owner “has been working with the city for probably a couple of years now” and requested annexation to obtain city utility services. Council agreed to introduce the annexation ordinance for later final vote.
On budget matters, staff presented the introduction of an ordinance to amend the current fiscal year 2024–25 budget and an ordinance to adopt the operating budget for fiscal year 2025–26. Staff said a standalone budget presentation is scheduled for Monday, June 9, with a 5:15 p.m. meeting to review the proposed budget before the regular meeting at 6 p.m., when adoption will be considered.
There was no public comment on either the annexation or the budget introductions, and council moved and approved both items to advance to subsequent hearings.
