Broussard council awards South Eola lift station contract; project subject to DEQ approval

The Broussard City Council voted April 22 to approve awarding the bid for upgrades to the South Eola lift station, subject to Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality approval, after an engineering presentation outlined the scope and need for the work.
Daniel Hutchinson of Como Engineering told the council four companies responded to the bid opening and one was nonresponsive and therefore rejected. Hutchinson said the lowest responsive bid was from Construction Site Specialties; in the meeting he read the bid figure as “1.3496470.6” and later described the low bid as roughly $340,000 under budget.
Hutchinson and other staff described the project scope as installing a new wet well, new pumps and a new 12-inch force main to replace the existing 8-inch line (the old 8-inch line would be abandoned in place for future use). Hutchinson said the force main run is on the order of 10,000 feet and that the existing station uses older “suction lift” pumps; the upgrades will increase capacity and storage to serve older parts of town and to allow future work at the Broussard Street lift station.
Council members asked clarifying questions about scope and necessity. No public comment was recorded. The council approved the resolution (Resolution No. 833-25) to award the bid; members from Districts 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 and the at-large member voted in favor.
The resolution directs staff to proceed with the award subject to required DEQ approval and contract formalities. The council did not specify a construction start date during the meeting.
