Council approves conditional use for Opelousas Middle School building to host business and administrative functions

Planning Director Lance Ned presented the item and said the Planning Commission had considered the request at its meeting and recommended approval. Ned explained the school board intends to use the first floor for child nutrition programs, administrative offices and business functions, and to use the second floor for offices for instructional specialists after the current school year ends. The property is in a Neighborhood Mixed Use zone and the change was characterized as an internal reconfiguration of existing school facilities for administrative and support functions.
The council moved the planning commission recommendation forward and the conditional use was approved on the record by roll call (vote recorded 5-1). Council members noted the planning commission review and the staff recommendation supporting interior renovations for administrative uses.
