The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors voted March 4 to renew the Colchester Farm Agricultural and Forestal District for a period of eight years, extending the district until October 2033.
Planning staff read a Planning Commission recommendation noting that the Commission, in consultation with the Agricultural and Forestal Advisory District Committee, determined renewal was appropriate to "conserve and protect and to encourage the development and improvement of agricultural and forested lands for the production of food and other agricultural and forested products." The commission recommended continuation under Appendix A, Article 8E of the Culpeper County code.
Planning staff reported that there have been no withdrawals from the district since its last renewal in 2017 and that no landowners requested voluntary withdrawal during the current review. The district covers five parcels totaling 427.88 acres, shown on the materials provided to the board.
A supervisor made a motion to renew the district for eight years, saying he supported the renewal "somewhat reluctantly" but called this exterior buffer "a safe one" that does not adversely affect adjoining landowners. The motion was approved by voice vote.
The renewal keeps the five enrolled parcels under the county's Agricultural and Forestal District program; the board did not adopt additional restrictions or modifications during the meeting.
