Residents ask VDOT to lower speed limit on Brandy Road near Route 29 interchange

Barbara Mosley told the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors at the May 6 public forum that she and neighbors want the posted speed limit on Brandy Road (the Route 29 interchange area) reduced to 35 mph to improve safety for frequent commercial traffic, heavy trucks and public turning movements.
Mosley said the current posted speed at the Route 29 intersection is 55 mph, with a transition to 45 mph at the town limits, and that an intermediate segment is “undetermined” on signage. She described the stretch as dominated by commercial businesses — gas stations, convenience stores, dealerships and service businesses — with heavy truck traffic including 18-wheelers and dump trucks. Mosley said VDOT sometimes allows localities, by ordinance, to reduce posted limits and said she and other residents planned to attend a VDOT meeting on May 7 to press the issue.
The board did not take formal action on the request at the May 6 meeting; Mosley asked the board to support local outreach to VDOT and to seek a 35-mph posting for the section between the Route 29 exit and Culpeper town limits.
