She described a universal screening process, a "20%" meeting structure for the roughly 20% of students needing extra help, and a 4:1 positive‑to‑negative ratio goal in staff‑student interactions.
She highlighted attendance outreach tactics—phone calls, postcards reading "we miss you," and non‑punitive supports for families that have helped, and reported the school met regularly to review individual student data. When a board member asked about tracking behavioral trends, McCarty said the district moved to Synergy last year and MTSS data are now being captured there to track referrals and progress from month to month.
Trustees commended the school’s positive culture, strong PTC fundraising (McCarty said the PTC raised over $45,000 this year for covered area, a scoreboard, and reading materials), and outreach events like ELD night and Reading Under the Stars. McCarty said kindergarten roundup indicated at least three kindergarten classes next year (over 60 incoming students).
