Board approves surplus of trailer and renews division insurance with VACOR

At its May 12 meeting the Prince George County School Board approved two operational items: surplusing an unused Kaufman gooseneck trailer and renewing the district’s division‑wide insurance coverage with VACOR.
Facilities staff reported the trailer has been largely unused and requires a commercial driver’s license to operate; the division’s maintenance team recommended trading it in toward purchase of a heavier tractor. The board approved declaring the trailer surplus and authorizing its trade-in.
On insurance, the board approved renewing the district’s division‑wide insurance policy with VACOR. Staff said VACOR’s quote this year was approximately $4,000 less than the current year premium and has been competitively priced relative to prior vendors. During the roll call Miss Andrews recorded an abstention on the insurance renewal; the remaining members voted yes and the renewal was approved.
Staff said VACOR had been responsive to recent claims and had accommodated direct payments to repair shops in some cases. The board asked staff to continue monitoring vendor performance and to report any significant service issues.
