School board approves Title I–IV federal grant applications
Summary
The board authorized submission of Title I, II, III and IV federal grant applications to fund reading specialists, professional development, EL services and leadership cohorts.
Prince George County School Board on May 12 approved submission of the district’s Title I through Title IV federal grant applications to the Virginia Department of Education.
The Title I application will continue to fund eight elementary reading specialists who provide intervention for students struggling with reading; Title I funds also support materials and parent-engagement activities. Title II funds were described as primarily supporting professional development, licensure reimbursements and cohort work with partner universities. Title III supports English learners; staff reported 183 EL students and said proposed use includes before-school tutoring, a summer program, and a trial of Lexia English for language development. Title IV funds were described as supporting additional professional development and cohorts (including partnerships with William & Mary and Longwood University).
Ms. Germanos and Ms. Mitchell presented the allocation breakdowns and answered board questions. After motion and roll call, the board approved the applications for submission.
