The Prince George County School Board returned from a closed session on May 12 with several personnel actions: the board authorized an employee contract, accepted an employee request, and appointed an assistant principal. The board also approved releasing employment contracts to staff the following day with contingency language tied to final funding.
During closed session the board certified discussion under Virginia Code §2.2‑3711 and then voted on multiple recommendations. In matter P15 (employee contract authorization) the board approved the recommendation to authorize an employee contract; Miss Andrews moved approval, Mister Johnson seconded, and the roll call recorded four yes votes and one abstention (Mister Ealy). In matter P55 the board approved accepting an employee’s request (motion by Miss Taylor, second by Miss Chris). In matter P54 the board approved the recommendation to appoint a person to the position of assistant principal at Harrison Elementary (motion by Mister Johnson, second by Miss Taylor) with an affirmative roll call.
Later in the meeting the board authorized release of employee contracts to be issued the following day, including the 5% increase reflected in the draft contracts; the release was contingent on receipt of the expected state and local funding and will include disclaimer language to that effect. Miss Andrews moved to release contracts with the contingency language and Miss Taylor seconded; the motion passed by roll call. Board members asked staff to implement additional checks to ensure contract accuracy before release.
The board also considered an appointment for principal of North Elementary (matter P53) in closed session; a motion to accept the recommendation failed to receive a second and therefore died, and no appointment was finalized for that matter during the meeting.
Board action on these personnel items followed standard closed‑session procedure and included roll‑call votes recorded into the public record after the board certified the closed session.
