Prince George County School Board on May 12 approved an $18,000 contract with VAST to conduct a comprehensive salary study that will include benefits and a comparison of vacation and holiday schedules to peer divisions in Region 1.
The board moved the item from discussion to action after staff obtained an updated proposal from VAST that added benefits analysis and interviews. Miss Taylor made the motion to move the item to action and Miss Andrews seconded; later the board approved the study with the requested scope additions.
Dr. Lau summarized the changes: VAST will review base pay across positions, include benefits (health, retirement, leave) and perform interviews and document review. Board members asked specifically that the scope include vacation and holiday comparisons; staff confirmed that would be added to the study scope.
The motion to approve included the scope addition for vacation and holiday comparisons and passed by roll call. Staff said the $18,000 cost will come from the division budget and that the firm will conduct interviews and perform benchmarking to Region 1 school divisions.
