The Franklin County School Board authorized a construction contract for HVAC upgrades at Snow Creek Elementary on April 7 after bids came in under the project budget.
Mr. Law presented results of a public bid opening for the project to replace two unit ventilators with rooftop units for two classrooms. The low responsive bid was from Thor (277,777), followed by MB Contractors (293,000) and Price Buildings Inc. (approximately $328,282). The project was advertised with mandatory pre-bid requirements; district staff emphasized providing specifications sufficient to control cost. Mr. Law said the project budget was $445,000 and the low bid was substantially under that figure.
A board member moved to accept the low bid and the motion carried on a voice vote. Staff said a notice to proceed would be issued promptly to allow for long equipment lead times and to target substantial completion by August so the classrooms are ready for the new school year.
The board did not adopt additional change orders or authorize further capital spending beyond the contract award at the meeting. Staff will return with construction oversight and schedule updates as the project proceeds.
