Advisory board approves March minutes; staff highlights Main Street Landing and riverfront planning

At the start of the April meeting, the Davenport Park and Recreation Advisory Board voted to approve the minutes of its March meeting. The motion was moved and seconded and the minutes were approved with no recorded abstentions.
During staff reports, members were briefed on the Main Street Landing groundbreaking, which staff said is under way on the riverfront, and advance notice of a June 20 fundraising golf outing for the Emice clubhouse. Staff said the Friends of Vander Veer are hosting an annual plant sale the weekend of the 25th–27th at the conservatory.
Staff also told the board the e-bike ordinance regulating use and classifications on the recreational trail system had already passed through city council in a prior cycle, addressing the rules for e-bike access on trails.
In a separate report, Riverfront Improvement Commission activity was discussed. Chris, the board’s liaison, summarized that the commission is re-evaluating its purpose and staffing after losing a staff member who ran the Big 9 series; the commission’s revenues are reduced compared with earlier years and members are weighing whether to downsize or restructure even as Main Street Landing and other riverfront improvements proceed.
The meeting adjourned by unanimous consent; the board scheduled its next meeting for May 15.
