Commission considers representation on city code-review advisory committee

Commissioners on May 12 discussed a proposed city advisory committee to review non-housing sections of the Ames City Code and whether the Historic Preservation Commission should have a representative on that advisory body.
One commissioner said she had already contacted the mayor and city manager and was told the city supports having a Historic Preservation Commission member on the advisory committee; she apologized for acting before consulting the commission. City official Steve Schenker briefly responded by email to the outreach, and staff member Kelly indicated Kate could be a candidate if the commission approves.
Commissioners noted there is currently no formal advisory committee in place; both Mark and Kelly said the City Council will establish the committee and appoint members when the process begins. Commissioners agreed it would be appropriate to have representation and asked staff to return the item to a future agenda once the City Council sets up the advisory committee. No formal motion or appointment was made at the May 12 meeting.
