Warrenton planning commission recommends raising variance fee to $1,500, adds $100 vacate fee

Warrenton City Planning and Zoning Commission members on March 2025 voted to recommend approval of Amendment 140 to Section 405.4, which raises the application review fee for commercial and residential variances and adds a fee for the vacate process, by a 6-0 roll call with four members absent.
The amendment would raise the variance fee for commercial and residential requests from $125 to $1,500 and would add a $100 charge for vacate applications. "We went from, the cost of $125 up to $1,500 on that. And the other change was we've added a charge for the vacate process, dollars 100," said Mr. Birx, a staff member who presented the changes to the commission.
The commission opened a public hearing on the amendment and, with no members of the public present to speak for or against the change, closed the hearing and moved to the regular meeting. Mr. Costello, Commissioner, moved to approve the minutes of the Jan. 2, 2025, meeting and to recommend approval of the amendment; Mr. Cooper, Commissioner, seconded the motions. The roll-call vote on the amendment recorded yes votes from Mr. Costello, Commissioner; Mr. Barton, Commissioner; Mr. Cooper, Commissioner; Mr. Dieterman, Commissioner; Ms. Madden, Commissioner; and Mr. Miller, Commissioner. The commission clerk noted four members were absent at the meeting.
Commission members were told the recommendation will be forwarded to the City Board later in the month for final action. After the votes, Mr. Birx distributed a set of survey questions that he said had been discussed at an earlier planning meeting and asked that they be posted to the city website for public submission; no formal action on the survey was recorded.
