Warrenton aldermen approve Gonzales contracts for well and wastewater construction phases

The Warrenton Board of Aldermen on May 6 approved two professional-services agreements with Gonzales Companies LLC to support water and wastewater construction work. The board voted unanimously, 5–0 with one member absent, to authorize the mayor to execute the contracts.

Director of Operations John Strukoff told the board the well and storage tank design is complete and bids are out. “This proposal is going to include a little bit of overages for the design of the project and also some of the construction engineering and inspections and everything for the project,” Strukoff said. He said bids for the well and storage tank project are scheduled to open in a couple of weeks.

On the wastewater project, Strukoff described the approved agreement as covering one year of construction-phase services with an expectation that the overall project will take about two years. The agreement as presented includes on-site services and inspections and allows the city to renegotiate after the first year. Strukoff said the construction-phase work includes on-site inspection time “up to 20 hours a week” and other construction engineering tasks.

The board approved the two ordinances (identified in the meeting as Bill No. 20-25 and Bill No. 21-25) by roll call. For each vote the minutes record five yes votes and one absent member.

Strukoff also thanked crews working at the treatment plant, noting they were removing old lagoon sludge and that the larger expansion project would begin next week. “That project will be kicked off, starting next week, so we’re expecting… a two-year project starting next week,” he said.

No dollar totals for the Gonzales agreements were provided at the meeting and the board did not discuss amendments to either contract during the session.

The contracts will proceed to execution by the mayor as authorized by the ordinances approved by the board.
