Clayton backs county to remove outdated time limits on Clayton Road parking

The Board of Aldermen voted March 3 to approve a resolution supporting Saint Louis County’s proposed ordinance to remove certain hourly parking restrictions along Clayton Road.
City staff explained that Clayton Road is an arterial under county maintenance and that prior time limits were installed when the outer lane periodically functioned as a through lane. County roadway changes — including intersection bump-outs — have converted the outermost lane into a permanent parking lane in some stretches, and county staff support removing the time restrictions. If the county approves the change, Clayton plans to adopt a matching ordinance so the city can continue consistent enforcement along the north side of Clayton Road.
Staff recommended approval and noted a diagram showing the proposed changes was included in the meeting materials. Ward aldermen representing the area told the board residents had requested the change, that the county was prepared to act and that the city should proceed to coordinate enforcement and signage.
An alderman asked why two small metered areas remain in the 6400 block; staff said the meters manage turnover in front of retail and help recoup enforcement costs. The board approved Resolution 2025-04 supporting the county’s proposed revisions and asked staff to follow up with county and city ordinance updates and enforcement coordination.
