Woodbury approves $100 fee and launches military banners program; applications due Feb. 28

The Village Board on Jan. 23 amended the village fee schedule to add a $100 fee for military banners under a new Military Banners Program.
Mayor Andrew Giacomaza said the $100 fee covers the majority of the banner cost but is slightly below the production price; the village will subsidize the difference and the program also can accept private sponsors to cover additional banners. Banners are scheduled to hang from Memorial Day through Veterans Day and will be taken down in winter to avoid damage.
The board discussed eligibility. The mayor said the program is intended primarily for village residents but the village will not turn away nonresidents and noted neighboring municipalities maintain their own programs. Applications are available at Village Hall and online; the mayor said completed applications must be returned by Feb. 28 for printing and installation in time for Memorial Day.
Maria Hunter and other volunteers described outreach and thanked highway and other staff for assistance with banner installation; the mayor credited staff and volunteers with moving the program forward. The board approved the fee-schedule amendment by voice vote.
The village will accept sponsored banners and has a process to assist applicants who cannot afford the fee. The clerk will make application materials available online and at Village Hall.
