Speedway reports rising iRead scores; final results expected in July

A district administrator reported to the School Town Speedway Board of Trustees on June 10 that preliminary iRead results are trending positively and that final, public results will be available after state reporting deadlines in late July.

The administrator said that, as of a current snapshot, about 70 percent of graders have passed the grade-level standard and that 93 percent would have passed the assessment if measured under a different snapshot of test attempts. She explained that students have multiple opportunities to take the assessment, including a summer-school window that runs through the week, and that some schools already administered make-up testing at the end of the regular year.

“Graders have three chances,” the administrator said, describing combinations of testing at the end of the prior year, in March and during summer school. The administrator said testing during the remaining summer-school days and results due from the state’s reporting timeline will push the district’s passing numbers higher and that the board should expect a more finalized report in July for public release.

The presenter asked the board to expect a fuller report at the August meeting, if not September, once the state’s iLearn/iRead public-release date (July 28) and the district’s score verification process are complete. The administrator credited teachers, principals and instructional coaches for the gains and said local staff will continue targeted interventions for students who still need support.

Trustees asked no additional questions about the iRead update at the meeting and thanked staff for the work.
