Planning board approves Joey’s monument sign; no building signage allowed

The DeWitt Planning Board voted unanimously May 8 to approve a revised monument sign for Joey’s restaurant, approving only the freestanding monument sign and not permitting any building‑mounted signage as part of the application.
Mark Weese of M.E. Weese & Associates described changes requested by the board: the sign numbers would be set in an inset panel in the stone monument and internally illuminated with a white face on a black panel. “The box now will be black just like the main sign with the numbers being white, and it'll be internally illuminated,” Weese said. He also confirmed the submission showed no building sign.
The board’s motion approved the monument sign as shown in the applicant’s updated submittal (last updated April 10, 2024, with Planning Board revisions dated April 24, 2025) and noted the approval is a supplement to the 2024 site plan. The resolution included the finding that only the monument sign is approved; any building sign would require a separate approval.
The motion passed unanimously.
