For the South Ocean Avenue accessibility ramps, contracts were recently released and the contractor has acknowledged receipt; staff said they expect signed contracts back within days and then will notify residents about start dates. Staff noted Ramp work could be delayed slightly because it is the contractor’s busy season and scheduling may shift accordingly.
Board members also discussed the proposed hotel project. They said the zoning change needed to allow a hotel on the property has been completed; the next step is a detailed site plan review before the planning board. The planning board expects to set a site plan hearing date "before the end of this month," and board members said they anticipated significant public interest and possible relocation of the hearing venue to South Ocean Avenue Middle School to accommodate attendees.
Members reported broader construction activity downtown, citing progress on East Main Street and work at the former Burlington factory now being developed by NYU Langone. The board also noted an approved project across from Blue Point Brewery known locally as the carriage house and said that tax breaks previously approved by Brookhaven had cleared the way for demolition permits once filed.
A community member announced the village parade scheduled for May 18 and encouraged broad public participation, saying the parade is intended to celebrate village residents and build community understanding. The organizer said, "It's really about the village residents, about just the community," and asked residents to attend.
No formal board vote was required on the project updates; actions reported are contingent on signed contracts, planning board scheduling, and contractor availability.
