The Parks and Recreation Commission on May 8 voted to begin the formal process to rename the middle B field at Rockwood Field in honor of Michael G. Rattay after Jesse Burkett Little League reported a $100,000 gift from the Michael G. Rattay Charitable Foundation.
Chad Dawkins, president of Jesse Burkett Little League, described the donation and the league's recent field improvements. Dawkins told commissioners that $25,000 of the gift purchased a field groomer for league and city use and that volunteers and league board members had invested roughly $68,000 in recent infield work. "In lieu of this generous donation, I'm requesting that B Field be renamed MGR Field," Dawkins said.
Assistant Commissioner Antonelli said the Parks Department would follow its standard renaming process: staff will mail required notices, accept public comment and return to the commission for final approval after the public-notice period and administrative checks. The commission approved a motion to begin the naming process and authorized staff to circulate the required notices and take the matter through the normal review and public-comment period.
Next steps: Parks staff will issue the public notice mailing and accept comments; final approval will come to the commission after the public-notice period and any required administrative steps are completed.
