The Radford City Council on Monday adopted multiple proclamations recognizing April observances including environmental awareness, Arbor Day, Earth Day, distracted driving awareness, public-safety telecommunicators, animal-care staff, National Library Week and Crime Victims Rights Week.
Council formalized the proclamations by motion and voice vote; each motion carried with unanimous “aye” responses and no recorded opposition. The proclamations call on residents to support environmental education and tree planting, observe Earth Day on April 22 (theme: reduce single-use plastics), practice distraction-free driving, recognize the work of public-safety telecommunicators and animal-control officers, visit and support the library during National Library Week, and observe National Crime Victims Rights Week.
The council noted planned Arbor Day and municipal forestry events organized by the Commission for Beautification and Municipal Forest, and invited residents to participate in library and victim-support events. Council also asked police and library staff to come forward for recognition at the meeting.
