Radford Council issues May/June proclamations; accepts $5,000 risk-sharing grant for safety and training

The council proclaimed June 14, 2025, as Flag Day in Radford; May 11–17 as National Police Week; May 18–24 as National Emergency Medical Services Week; May 18–24 as National Public Works Week; May as Mental Health Month; June as Pride Month (commemorating the 1969 Stonewall uprising and supporting LGBTQ inclusion); June 19 as Juneteenth; and May as Military Appreciation Month. Each proclamation was introduced by council members and approved by voice vote.
Separately, the council approved Appropriation Ordinance 18-02.29, accepting a $5,000 Virginia Risk Sharing Association grant to fund safety equipment, training and safety-education initiatives. The transcript records a motion, a second and a voice vote of approval. Council noted the funds will support wastewater training and water-resistant microphones for the police department, and that the safety committee identified eligible uses.
