Radford City Council approved a subdivision plat and a development agreement for the Glades Golden Triangle property, enabling the developer to move forward with dozens of single-family lots on a 21.5-acre parcel.
"We are excited for this development," Seth, a member of the planning commission, said during the meeting. "When you talk about being able to move our effort forward and really grow new revenue generation, this will move the needle."
Council record shows the city approved a subdivision plat for 54 lots within the property and also approved a development agreement during the meeting. Earlier in the discussion staff noted the developer had requested subdivision of a 21.5-acre lot to allow development of 55 single-family homes; the planning commission's April 21 recommendation asked the council to approve the subdivision as presented.
Why it matters: Council members described the project as a multimillion-dollar investment that will add new homes and families to the community. The mayor said the project continues a recent run of private investment in Radford, noting more than $100 million in new investment over the past seven years in housing, retail and commercial projects.
Council voted to approve both the subdivision plat and the development agreement; no amendments were recorded during the meeting. Staff and planning-commission members said the subdivision lots meet the city's zoning requirements and that three of the lots are adjacent to Morton Street and are not contiguous with the remainder of the tract.
The development agreement and subdivision approval were recorded as motions and passed by the council at the meeting.
