The planning commission had recommended denial of the request by a vote of 6–0 at its prior meeting.
Councilors discussed whether the new information was sufficiently different from the materials before the planning commission to justify restarting the commission’s review. One council member said they had reviewed the planning commission’s recorded deliberations and did not see new facts that would change that body’s recommendation; other members said information brought to council on April 14 warranted returning the application to the planning commission.
The remand does not grant the conditional use permit. It directs the planning commission to review the new material and reconsider the application; the council will take any final action only after the planning commission completes its review and returns a recommendation.
The property is described in meeting materials as an approximately 1.42-acre parcel identified as tax map parcel 11-01-00-0060-B and is zoned RS (single-family residence). The council’s resolution notes that both the applicant and parties opposed to the CUP provided additional information to city council after the planning commission’s hearing.
No construction or permit approvals were authorized by the vote. The planning commission will set its own schedule for reconsideration and hearings under the city’s standard procedures.
The remand follows an April 14 meeting where the application was initially tabled; council members who participated at that meeting are expected to receive the planning commission’s supplemental review before any final decision.
