Suffern promotes Detective Sergeant William Samora to police lieutenant

The Village of Suffern Board of Trustees on July 28, 2025 approved the promotion of Detective Sergeant William Samora to the rank of lieutenant, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Lieutenant Giuntino.
Village Police Chief Laughlin recommended the promotion and summarized Samora’s career, saying he had served in patrol and as patrol sergeant before becoming detective sergeant in March 2024. Chief Laughlin said Samora supervised the detective bureau, managed complex investigations and coordinated with other Rockland County agencies. He also noted Samora’s roles as assistant accreditation manager, field training officer, taser instructor and a New York State master police instructor. “For all of the reasons I’ve just gone over, I consider it an honor and a privilege to recommend Detective Sergeant Samora for promotion to the rank of lieutenant,” Chief Laughlin told the board.
Detective Sergeant William Samora took the oath of office in front of family members who joined him at the podium. Trustee Oddmore moved to appoint Samora to the position of police lieutenant; Deputy Mayor Joe Meakin Corrigan seconded the motion. The board approved the appointment by voice vote; no opposition was recorded.
The promotion fills an internal vacancy and places Samora in a supervisory role the chief identified as essential for ongoing investigations and interagency coordination. The appointment was followed by congratulations from members of the board and attendees.
