Business improvement district reports farmers market, ballfield and train-station solar projects; downtown grant application planned

The Patchogue Business Improvement District updated the Board of Trustees on several downtown projects and seasonal events, including a farmers market tentatively scheduled for the second Sunday in June, beautification work and hanging baskets, and a near-complete ballfield that the BID expects to be playable by the end of the month.
BID representatives said the train-station project is a roughly $5.2 million undertaking; the group reported a $3 million grant from New York Governor Kathy Hochul that reduced the village's net obligation for the work. The BID said the village will begin collecting solar energy in a few weeks and that related contracts have been issued for concrete and rigging, with construction of an arch and walkway expected to begin in early May.
The BID also reported it will apply for the next round of Suffolk County downtown redevelopment funding for Waverly Avenue and that the BID is planning entertainment and signage for the farmers market at three locations around town.
The updates were given as informational reports; the board did not take separate formal action on the BID items during the meeting.
