Catherine Card, the district’s public information officer, and Hillary Demers, digital media and communication specialist, briefed the board on the communications department’s work, including a Sunspra silver award for the district annual report.
Card described her role as the point of contact for media and said the district has coordinated with news outlets across the region to increase coverage of student and district achievements. Demers said the communications team manages the district website, call-out systems and social channels, and that their team has issued about 80 press releases so far this year.
Card and Demers outlined a weather-communications plan that includes senior-staff scripts, back-ups and coordination with local public safety partners. They also described planned customer-service improvements and a school-climate survey initiative aimed at improving engagement. Board members praised the team’s responsiveness and cited real-time coordination in recent emergency messaging as an example of the value of a single consistent district voice.
The presenters asked for continued board support for communications initiatives; no board action was required at the workshop.
