Council approves temporary 5% raise for deputy auditor; prior 10% budget action under review

Deputy Auditor staff and council discussed that the council had previously approved a 10% increase through the 2025 budget process but that a payroll/system change resulted in the intended increase not being implemented as presumed. A council member asked that the full compensation change and the corresponding cost‑of‑living adjustment (COLA) be reconciled to reflect the council’s original intent.
A motion to approve the 5% temporary raise passed; roll‑call voting included Councilwoman Ortiz voting no and Councilwoman Davis and others voting yes. Council instructed staff to reconcile the prior budget action and to adjust payroll going forward if the 10% plus COLA was intended. The council also referred consideration of making the compensation fully retroactive to the beginning of the year to staff for analysis and possible future action.
“...the council previously had approved that 10% increase for the deputy auditor position, through its 2025 budget process. We come to find out the system was changed to 10% which would have been 7% and the 3% raise or COLA rather instead of the 10% plus the equivalent,” a council member said, asking staff to clarify the implementation.
