County amends budget as FEMA and other funds shift; vehicle replacements delayed to next year

The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners accepted budget amendment No. 4 for the current fiscal year, which county finance staff said totals $986,792 and includes approximately $780,000 in FEMA-related revenues.
Finance staff said the amendment adjusts several departmental accounts to reflect FEMA reimbursements, changes in state and federal funding flows, and timing shifts. Staff noted some specialty vehicle purchases scheduled for the year will be delayed until the next fiscal year because the vehicles are not available now; those purchases will be carried forward into the 2025–26 budget.
Other adjustments include reallocation of salary lines where departments used more or fewer hours due to storm response, and movement of some social-services line items to reflect actual state and federal reimbursements. County staff said they expect one more amendment before the fiscal year closes and that some FEMA money may not arrive until July, which could be recorded against the prior fiscal year via year-end accounting.
Commissioners approved the amendment by voice vote; staff will continue to report budget changes and track FEMA reimbursements as they arrive.
