Carson City trustees recognize students and FBLA state winners; district names 2024–25 distinguished students

Trustees and district staff used a portion of the meeting to recognize student achievements across Carson City schools, including Future Business Leaders of America state champions, prom royalty, and the district's annual distinguished student awards.

Angela Golick, FBLA advisor, told the board that 18 of 41 students who competed at the state conference qualified for nationals and that 21 students will attend the FBLA national conference in Anaheim this summer. Golick said students sold advertising for a student‑produced magazine and raised more than $70,000 in advertising revenue; a local collaborator, Carson Now, donated $36,000 and one entrepreneur matched that donation.

Student presenters included FBLA members and a brief prom royalty introduction: prom king and queen were announced as Angel Vega and Emma Drysdale; friendship ball winners were Chris Roski and Nicole Masden. In the student representative portion of the agenda, Pioneer Academy and Carson High student ambassadors highlighted testing schedules, fundraisers and upcoming dances.

Superintendent Andrew Phelan and board members then presented the district's 2024–25 distinguished student awards, recognizing students from every elementary, middle and high school, plus Carson Montessori. Winners were named from schools including Bordewick Bray, Empire, Fremont, Mark Twain, Seliger, Carson Middle, Eagle Valley Middle, Carson High and Pioneer; trustees asked families and students present to remain for a group photograph.

The recognitions were informational only; no board policy changes or funding decisions were made during this portion of the meeting.
