Marshall City Council approves contracts, multiple ordinances, emergency agreement and appropriations; appoints Lindsey Parton to Marshall Housing Authority

The Marshall City Council approved a series of formal actions including two Board of Public Works contracts, three ordinances vacating city tracts and an alley, an emergency-management agreement with Saline County, an ordinance making appropriations, and an appointment to the Marshall Housing Authority.

The council voted to authorize the Board of Public Works to contract with Christopher Coleman, doing business as Coleman's Plumbing, and with TNT Underground Construction. Council members said both contractors submitted the lowest bids on separate projects tied to a USDA ReConnect grant the board is administering. The resolutions authorizing those contracts passed on roll call votes with council members recorded as voting in the affirmative.

Council members also approved three ordinances that vacate described tracts previously dedicated to the city for street purposes and reserve utility easements, and an ordinance vacating and discontinuing a portion of a public alley in Block 4 and 5 of Sergeant's edition. The council approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to execute an emergency management agreement with Saline County; staff explained the agreement formalizes regional hazard-mitigation planning and clarifies command and coordination in emergencies. Councilors also approved an ordinance making appropriations for payment of accounts from city funds.

In a separate routine appointment, the council appointed Lindsey Parton to a new term on the Marshall Housing Authority. Council members moved the appointment and voted by voice/roll call; the motion was approved.
