The finance committee endorsed a three‑year renewal with Oracle for the university’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system at an estimated cost of $3 million, effective July 1, 2025.
Division of Information Technology staff told trustees the agreement will include software maintenance, the latest Oracle servers in the cloud, storage, disaster recovery and backup services to support the PeopleSoft‑based ERP environment. Matt (IT staff) said the ERP environment provides finance, human resources and student information systems that are core to university operations.
Trustees asked whether the university is locked into Oracle; IT staff said NIU moved its ERP to Oracle Cloud in 2020 and that the three‑year renewal accommodates a potential multi‑year migration to a different platform if the university later decides to move off PeopleSoft/Oracle. Committee members heard that migration would take multiple years and that peers across Illinois are considering a range of ERP solutions.
Trustee Veronica Herrero moved approval and Trustee Leland Strom seconded; the committee approved the item and will forward it to the full board.
