Carthage Humane Society reports intake, adoptions and spring fundraisers

Renee Minshew, representing the Carthage Humane Society, updated the City Council on intake, adoptions and fundraising activities during the Jan.–Feb. period.
Minshew said the shelter took in 12 cats and 37 dogs in January and adopted 7 cats and 13 dogs (20 adoptions total). She reported the shelter’s total census in January was 83 animals. For February to date, the shelter had taken in 3 cats and 24 dogs and completed 10 adoptions. “February is not a great month for an animal shelter,” Minshew said, noting that weather affected intake and operations.
Fundraising efforts cited include calendar sales (100% of profits to the shelter), a Love Your Pet day on Jan. 26 offering low-cost microchips and nail trims, Valentine T-shirts, a benefit at Guardian Manger on Feb. 15 that donated 15% of daily sales, and planned Shamrock sales in March. Minshew also listed two upcoming events: a benefit barrel race on March 29 at the Veil War Arena and an adoption/benefit event on April 26 at Gregg's Park starting at 8 a.m.
Minshew asked residents to support the shelter’s events and purchases to help cover care for animals and operational needs.
