Council approves public-safety resolution to pursue state law-enforcement grants

The Warrensburg City Council approved a resolution stating the city’s commitment to public safety and crime prevention so it can seek state law-enforcement grant funds tied to a recent governor’s initiative.
Police Chief Andrew Munsterman presented the resolution and said the measure follows a governor-released press packet and that the city must adopt a formal resolution to be eligible for certain grant dollars. "If we're gonna have access to $10,000,000 that they're putting in with grants, for law enforcement, we have to get this resolution and be recognized by the council and the public that we're gonna be committed," Munsterman said. He told council staff will begin submitting the paperwork and required documentation once the resolution is passed.
Councilmembers moved and approved the resolution by roll call. Votes recorded "yes" from Kushner, Osborne, Letari, Jones and Euler.
Chief Munsterman described the city’s ongoing commitment to crime reduction and said the statewide grant program includes application paperwork and labeling requirements the city must satisfy. The resolution does not itself appropriate funds or change local policy; it signals council support so staff can complete grant applications and administrative forms.
Staff said they will start the grant-application process and return to the council with any requests for local matches or program-specific approvals if required. The council did not adopt any spending authorization or conditions at the meeting.
