Police chief reports officer-involved crash, juvenile shooting and out-of-county arrest

Warrensburg Police Chief reported several recent incidents to the council: a patrol vehicle collision that totaled an officer's vehicle, a juvenile who was shot and treated at Children's Mercy Hospital, and the arrest of an out-of-county suspect wanted for distribution of fentanyl.

Chief Munsterman said the officer returned to duty after a two-day recovery following the crash. The department estimates approximately $29,000 in damage to the patrol vehicle. In a separate incident, a juvenile male brought a gun to Grover Park and shot a juvenile female in the leg; she was transported to Children's Mercy Hospital and had a bullet removed from her leg and is reported to be OK. The male juvenile was taken into custody and held in Cass County juvenile facilities pending further action.

Also reported was a suspect wanted out of Jackson County for fentanyl distribution who was located in Warrensburg on South Maguire Street; the suspect initially refused to exit the residence but eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

Chief Munsterman said the department appreciated assistance from the Fire Department and EMS in a separate search-and-rescue for a lost juvenile who was found in a creek and reunited with family. The chief said investigations are ongoing into the source of the firearm used in the Grover Park incident and into the circumstances of the vehicle crash; he did not provide further details pending investigation.
