Resident presses council for lower trash rates for single‑person and retired households

At the appearances portion of the meeting, resident Glenn Boxley of 1700 Sunrise Drive addressed the council about recent changes to trash and recycling collection.
Boxley said he represents a class of residents—many retired, empty‑nest households—who now pay more since the city took over collection. He described three weeks of small volumes and said private collection costs had been considerably lower for some households. “It has been a real increase in cost to those of us that have very small families,” he told the council.
Boxley asked the council to consider options for a price break for households that produce negligible amounts of trash. He said city payment‑office staff had acknowledged the concern and encouraged him to bring it to council consideration. Boxley also suggested citizens communicate with elected representatives by letter to signal the size of the constituency behind the complaint.
Council members thanked Boxley for raising the issue; staff did not present an immediate policy response during the meeting.
